At Rued Winery, making wine is a family affair. On any day of the week if you visit Rued Winery in Dry Creek Valley, you are certain to run into one of the family members. Richard Rued and eldest son Tom, tend the vineyards and the manage the winery. Youngest son, Steve Rued with his wife Sonia, jointly and 'boldly' are the winemakers, and Dee Rued, wife of Richard & mother of two sons, manages the tasting room and oversees the marketing......talk about family ties! The roots of Rued Winery dates back to 1876 when Richards Great Grandfather, Henry, arrived in America from Switzerland to work the Napa Valley vineyards of Berigner Brothers. By 1882 he planted his own vineyard in the Russian River Valley. In 1905, Richards grandfather, also Henry, purchased a ranch in Alexander Valley. And in 1957, long after prohibition had been repealed, Richard re-established his familys long ties with grapegrowing when he took over responsibility for the familys small plot of grapes on what was now their home estate in Dry Creek Valley. The Rued family grows and bottles 100% varietals. The range of wines they offer is impressive for a small family winery but they are best known for their Zinfandels. In the tasting room they specialize in pouring Zinfandel from their 2004, 2005 & 2006 vintages, where you can easily taste how the varying climates from year to year affect the intensity, color, sugar & tannins in the grape.
